Continuing our free school feeding program\, @nohungerfoodbank (NHFB) is reaching Kantamari Primary School in Kaugama LGA\, Jigawa State\, Nigeria. Northern Nigeria bears one of the world’s highest out-of-school child rates\, over 28 million kids nationwide per UNICEF\, with Jigawa among the hardest hit\, many dropping out simply because hunger keeps them home. One daily meal changes that: it boosts enrollment\, sharpens focus\, and reignites hope. To our amazing donors\, thank you for making this possible!

DESCRIPTION:It was an extraordinary milestone at the Durumi IDP Camp in Abuja\, Nigeria\, as we launched the second phase of our Vertical Backyard Farming for Family Nutrition Needs (VERT2FAMNN)! Supported by No Hunger Food Bank and the Australian High Commission\, Nigeria\, this project is transforming lives and fostering self-sufficiency among female-headed households. With heartfelt dedication\, we equipped these resilient women with essential agricultural tools\, including vertical planters\, watering cans\, seeds\, decomposed soil\, stalks\, and various garden tools. Our aim? To empower them to cultivate their farms\, ensuring they can nourish their families and achieve food security. The event was a vibrant celebration of knowledge and community\, featuring full-day training sessions designed to equip our beneficiaries with the skills they need to thrive. From hands-on gardening techniques to sustainable farming practices\, every moment was infused with hope and inspiration. A heartfelt vote of thanks was delivered by one of the women beneficiaries in Hausa\, beautifully translated by Baba Idris Aliyu\, the esteemed coordinator and spokesman of the Abuja-based IDP camps and a cherished resident of Durumi IDP Camp:\n\n Translation: “On behalf of the beneficiaries\, she expressed her gratitude to No Hunger Food Bank and the Australian High Commission\, Nigeria\, they are extremely happy about this initiative and say that they can not express their joy enough\, God bless No Hunger Food Bank\, God Bless the Australian High Commission\, Nigeria\, and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. SUMMARY:VerT2FAMNN Project: Outreach with Australian High Commission
DESCRIPTION:No Hunger Initiatives (aka No Hunger Food Bank) in collaboration with the Australian High Commission\, Nigeria \n\nIntroduction The Vertical Backyard Farming project\, held in Karon Majigi\, Abuja\, marks the initiation of a sustainable agriculture initiative aimed at enhancing food security and promoting environmentally friendly farming practices in urban settings. This project was carried out by No Hunger Initiatives\, also known as No Hunger Food Bank\, in collaboration with the Australian High Commission\, Nigeria. The primary goal is to introduce innovative agricultural techniques while fostering community engagement. On the 8th of February 2025\, our team delivered  vertical planters to the Karounmajiji PWD camp\, located on Airport Road\, Abuja. The Karounmajiji PWD camp is home to many individuals who have been displaced due to conflict and disaster. The vertical planters are designed to provide a sustainable solution for food production and improve the overall well-being of the camp residents.\n\n\n\nThe Vertical Backyard Farming project in Karon Majigi and the recent delivery of vertical planters to the Karounmajiji IDP camp represent significant steps toward sustainable urban agriculture in Nigeria. With the support of No Hunger Initiatives and the Australian High Commission\, this initiative has the potential to transform local communities by enhancing food security\, promoting healthy eating\, and fostering sustainable practices. The successful delivery and installation of the vertical planters in the PWD camp highlight the project’s commitment to supporting vulnerable populations. Moving forward\, it is crucial to address the challenges faced during this phase and explore opportunities for expansion and further community engagement. Recommendations 1. Continued Support: Provide ongoing support and resources to participants to ensure the sustainability of the vertical gardens. 2. Monitoring and Evaluation: Implement a monitoring system to assess the long-term impact of the project on food security and community empowerment. 3. Future Phases: Plan for additional phases that could include more extensive training\, expansion to other communities\, and integration of technology in farming practices.
